(Fonte: europeanjournalists.org) On 13 March 2026, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama held a press conference in Tirana during which he once again displayed disrespect towards members of the press. Journalist Ambrozia Meta of Syri TV and Isa Myzyaj of Report Tv, who also serves as chairman of the Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH), were ultimately expelled from the conference.
The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) joins its Albanian affiliates, the Association of Professional Journalists of Albania (APJA) and the Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH), as well as the SafeJournalists Network (SJN), in condemning the Prime Minister’s behaviour as part of an alarming pattern of harassment against Albanian journalists. We urge Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government to stop targeting the press and to ensure that all journalists have transparent and fair access to official press events. The Prime Minister and his government are obliged to be transparent and answer questions of public interest.
According to reports, on 13 March, when faced with legitimate questions on matters of clear public interest, Prime Minister Rama interrupted the press conference and informed Ambrozia Meta that she would no longer be permitted to attend any of his future press briefings. Similarly, Isa Myzyaj was ordered to leave and was reportedly physically removed from the room.
The Prime Minister is also said to have referred to certain critical media outlets as ‘tenxhere’ (a boiling pot), a derogatory and dismissive term in Albania, and falsely accused them of criminal activity such as money laundering and tax evasion. The Prime Minister Rama must immediately stop discrediting the media for performing their duties, and fulfil his duty to ensure transparency and accountability.
“The EFJ expresses its full solidarity with journalists Ambrozia Meta and Isa Myzyaj, as well as with all other journalists who are relentlessly targeted for their independent reporting. Since the beginning of the year, the EFJ has documented several instances of verbal abuse by Prime Minister Edi Rama, primarily in the form of discrediting. Such behaviour from the country’s highest-ranking elected official is incompatible with democratic principles,” said Maja Sever, President of the EFJ.
